North-South Corridor Study

Overview

The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) have initiated an engineering and environmental study to identify and evaluate possible transportation routes for a proposed North-South Corridor. The purpose of this study is to provide a connection between US 60 and Interstate 10 (I-10). This study continues the work started by the ADOT Pinal County Corridors Definition Study, which was completed in 2006.

Project Map

The proposed North-South Corridor study area begins at US 60, in the vicinity of Apache Junction, and extends south approximately 40 miles to the area near Eloy and Picacho. The width of the study area will allow for reasonable and feasible transportation routes to be identified and evaluated.

Please visit Meetings and Notices for information on past and upcoming meetings.

The study team, led by ADOT and FHWA, will follow the requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) to complete a Draft and Final Environmental Impact Statementfor the study. Additionally, the team will consider alternative modes of transportation, identify the location of a possible transportation corridor and the functional classification of the route as an arterial or freeway. Key to the NEPA process and the overall study will be the involvement of all governmental jurisdictions within the study area, including the public and stakeholder groups.
